OTP For The Day: Elisa Maza/Goliath
Wonderful Fanart by YoukaiYume.
If you’ve never heard of Gargoyles then I don’t know you.
Kidding, but one of the things that kept me watching the series was the characters Elisa Maza and Goliath. Their romance was a wonderful take on the Beauty and the Beast theme. They even gave a quiet nod to that in an episode where Elisa dresses as Belle in a Halloween episode and had she and Goliath dance.
What I liked about this romance was that they slowly and steadily gravitated toward one another. The writers did an awesome job balancing that along with the fact that they were painfully aware that they weren’t the same species. It kept them hovering apart until that particular wall came down. I think what was also appealing was that the more they got to know one another, the more they realized how much they were alike. Both have a sense of honor, duty, and justice. Both will do what it takes to see to that duty, even if it means putting each other at odds.
…. it also really helps that Goliath was voiced by Keith David. I’M JUST SAYING.
At the time I felt very connected with Elisa, who’s a very unique character as far as Disney productions go. Mixed heritage, but really didn’t see herself as anything more than American, and was just trying to do her job as a NYC police officer. Goliath floated my boat in all sorts of ways so I was totally shipping these two hard back then and still do now. Doesn’t matter to me what universe they happen to be floating in, as long as they end up together then I has a happies. OTP right der.
